Description
The Knightsbridge CU1500 is a double-gang 25mm surface-mount pattress box in white thermoset resin, designed specifically for the Curved Edge (CU) series of wiring accessories. The rounded-edge profile matches the soft contours of CU faceplates, creating a flush transition between the box and the installed accessory rather than the sharp corners of standard pattress boxes.
Installed where recessing into the wall is not possible or practical, surface pattress boxes provide a mounting solution for switches, sockets and data outlets on solid walls, tiled surfaces, temporary partitions and pre-cast concrete where chasing is restricted. The 25mm depth accommodates standard UK wiring and terminal blocks without overcrowding the back box, while the 146mm x 86mm footprint matches the standard double-gang plate size used across residential and commercial installations.
The thermoset resin construction resists impact and deformation better than thermoplastic alternatives, maintaining shape under heat from high-load circuits. The box carries an IP20 ingress protection rating, suitable for dry indoor locations, and has been third-party tested to ISO 22196:2011 for anti-microbial properties, reducing bacterial growth on the surface. Two brass fixing lugs are moulded into the back plate for screwing directly to the wall substrate, with cable entry knockouts pre-formed on all four sides and the rear face.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between this and a standard pattress box?
The CU1500 has rounded edges that match the curved profile of Knightsbridge's Curved Edge (CU) series faceplates. Standard pattress boxes have sharp 90-degree corners that create a visible gap when paired with rounded-edge accessories. This box ensures a flush, consistent appearance between the box and the faceplate.
Does it include an earth terminal?
No. The box has no integrated earth terminal. Earthing must be managed within the accessory itself or via a separate earth terminal block installed inside the box before fitting the accessory.
Where are the cable entry points?
The box has pre-formed knockouts on all four sides and the rear face, allowing cables to enter from the top, bottom, left, right or back depending on the installation requirements. Knockouts are removed by tapping out the required aperture before surface mounting.
Is it suitable for outdoor use?
No. The IP20 rating indicates protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but no protection against moisture ingress. The box is suitable only for dry indoor locations. For outdoor or damp environments, use a box with a minimum IP rating of IP55 or IP65.
