Dipti 220 x 240cm Cotton Quilted Bedspread - Charcoal

This is the larger of the two Dipti quilted bedspreads, 240 by 220cm in a cotton and linen blend. The printed face carries a charcoal pin stripe over oatmeal; turned over, the reverse is plain oatmeal and the quilting reads across it as a dark contrast stitch. Kantha rows run the length of the quilt in dashes of uneven length, and a narrow striped binding closes the edge.

At 240 by 220cm it covers a bed rather than crossing it. With the 220cm laid across a super king, the 240cm runs the full length and still drops over the sides. Drawn up over the pillows and folded back along the top, the plain reverse shows in the turn. On a king it hangs lower at the sides and further over the foot. It weighs 3.1kg.

The fabric is a cotton and linen blend, printed and stitched by hand throughout. The Kantha quilting is rows of running stitch worked one line at a time, which is what puts the slight ripple into the surface instead of the flat grid a machine leaves, and the thread is dark enough to carry the pattern on its own on the plain side. A contrast stitch finishes the reverse. The Dipti is also made at 220 by 140cm, which crosses a bed rather than covering it.

What size bed does it cover?

It is 240 by 220cm. Laid across a super king the 220cm covers the width and the 240cm runs the length with a drop at the sides. On a king it hangs lower still.

Which side goes up?

Either. One face is the charcoal stripe and the other is plain oatmeal, and the quilting stitch shows on both.

How is it washed?

Take the temperature on the care label as a maximum; a cooler wash works and uses less energy. It softens each time it is washed, and a gentle fabric softener can go in now and then. Line dry where possible, or tumble dry on low and take it out promptly.
