Description

The Dia is a jute lampshade in a tapered drum, 21.5cm tall and 40.5cm across the wider end, lined pale on the inside. The jute is coarsely woven and the weave is visible across the whole surface, with the slub and colour variation of the fibre left in. The lining reflects light back down rather than letting it pass out through the weave in every direction.

It fits a table lamp, a floor lamp or a ceiling pendant, so it is not tied to one position in a room. On a table lamp the taper keeps the widest part at the bottom and throws light down onto the surface; on a ceiling fitting the same shape spreads it wider across the room. At 40.5cm across it is the large size in the range, which suits a substantial base rather than a slim one. It weighs 0.66kg.

Jute is a plant fibre, coarse and hard wearing, and it is woven before being formed over the frame, so the tension and the grain differ from shade to shade. The Dia range runs from small to extra large in this natural jute and again in an ink colourway. No bulb, base or fitting is included.
