Description
The Dia is a jute lampshade in a tapered drum, lined pale on the inside. This is the extra large: 26cm tall, 40.5cm across the top and 46cm across the base. It is the deepest of the four as well as the widest, so the taper is gentler and the shade reads as a broad band of texture rather than a small cone. The jute is coarsely woven, with the slub and the colour variation of the fibre left in.
At 46cm across this is a floor lamp shade or a pendant, not a table lamp one. On most table bases it will overhang the surface; on a floor lamp over a metre tall it is in proportion with the column, and the extra width spreads the light across a wider area below. Hung from a ceiling it needs space around it, because a shade this size read from below is the whole of what anyone sees. At 26cm deep it hides the lampholder from any normal angle. It weighs 0.8kg.
Jute is a plant fibre, coarse and hard wearing, and it is woven before being formed over the frame, so the tension and the grain differ from shade to shade. The Dia range runs from small to extra large in this natural jute and again in an ink colourway. No bulb, base or fitting is included.

Frequently Asked
Is the extra large too big for a table lamp?
For most, yes. At 46cm across the base it overhangs an ordinary side table. It is the size for a floor lamp or a ceiling pendant.
Will it hide the lampholder?
Yes, at 26cm deep, from any angle you would normally look at it.
Will it fit a ceiling pendant as well?
Yes. It is made for table lamps, floor lamps and ceiling use, and on a ceiling it is the size that suits a room with some height to it.
How do I handle it?
Hold it by the fitting and never by the jute. A shade this wide is easy to pull out of shape if you lift it by the fabric. A microfibre cloth, gently, is all it asks for.
