Description

A round wall clock hand carved from mango wood, 41cm across and 3cm deep. The face is cut into deep grooves that run in from a narrow raised rim and close around a smooth oval panel at the centre. There are no numerals and no cover over the face. Two slim brushed brass hands turn from a pin set in the middle of that panel.

At 41cm across it reads from the far side of a room, and at 3cm deep it sits close to the wall. Hung on a bare wall, the grooves hold enough shadow to read as carving rather than as a flat pattern. A kitchen wall, a hallway or the wall above a mantelpiece all take it at that size. Because there are no numerals and no markers on the rim, the time is read from the hands alone.

The body is mango wood and the two hands are brushed brass. Each face is carved by hand, so the depth of the grooves and the run of the grain differ from clock to clock. The rim is narrow and stands proud of the face all the way round.
