Description

The Dark is a 9-light cluster pendant from Schuller with nine smoked-glass globes suspended from a matt black circular canopy measuring 55cm in diameter. The globes are finished in two tones — warm amber and moody grey — and vary in size from approximately 120mm to 200mm in diameter, creating a graduated cascade when hung at different heights. Each globe houses a G9 LED bulb (included), rated at 4W per bulb and emitting 3000K warm white light.

Designed for installation above dining tables, in double-height entrance halls, or over kitchen islands with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above, the Dark works as both ambient and decorative lighting. The cables are individually adjustable between 75cm and 200cm, allowing the globes to be clustered tightly for a compact sculptural form or spread vertically to fill taller voids. The matt black canopy includes gravity toggles to hold it flush against the ceiling once wired, and the brass collars where each cable exits the canopy add a warm metallic accent that pairs with brass cabinet handles, warm timber or marble surfaces.

The smoked glass in amber and grey tones softens the LED output and creates layered colour when multiple globes overlap visually from different viewing angles. The combined weight of 5.64kg means the fitting requires secure fixing into a ceiling joist or reinforced ceiling rose — the canopy spreads the load across multiple fixing points. The IP20 rating restricts use to indoor dry locations only. The satin brass collars contrast with the black canopy and cables, giving the fitting a two-tone finish that works in both contemporary and transitional interiors.

Are the LED bulbs included?

Yes. The Dark ships with nine G9 LED bulbs rated at 4W each and 3000K colour temperature. The bulbs are integrated into the design and replacements are available separately if needed in future.

What ceiling height is needed?

The adjustable cable drop ranges from 75cm to 200cm per globe. For a dining table or kitchen island, you typically want the lowest globe to sit 700-900mm above the surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above. Taller voids such as entrance halls or stairwells can use the full 200cm drop to fill the vertical space.

How are the cable lengths adjusted?

Each of the nine cables is individually adjustable during installation. The excess cable is looped inside the canopy and secured with the provided cable grips, allowing you to set each globe at a different height to create the desired cascade or cluster effect.

Can it be installed on a sloped ceiling?

The canopy is designed for flush mounting on flat ceilings. Installation on a sloped or vaulted ceiling would require a custom sloped ceiling adaptor, which is not included and may affect the cable arrangement and visual balance of the globes.
