Description

The Danta frame holds a photograph between two sheets of clear glass, bound at the edges by a thin channel of antique brass. Nothing sits behind the picture, so the glass stays see through all round it. A small brass clip on one edge turns to release the panes, and a folding brass easel is hinged across the back. It stands 16cm high and 10cm wide and takes a 4 by 6 inch photograph, portrait.

The picture floats in the middle of the glass with clear glass all round it, so it reads as an object rather than a print in a mount, and on a shelf or a windowsill the light comes through behind it. It stands on its easel and is not made to hang, so a shelf, a mantelpiece or a desk is where it goes.

The frame is glass and brass. The brass is soldered round the glass with traditional tools and the weld marks are left showing on the joins. The finish is uneven, brighter along the edges and darker at the corners, so the tone shifts from frame to frame. The Danta frame is also made for 5 by 7 and 8 by 10 inch photographs.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

16cm high, 10cm wide and 1cm deep.

What size photograph does it take?

4 by 6 inches, portrait.

Does it hang on a wall?

No. It stands on a folding brass easel hinged across the back.

How does the photograph go in?

A small brass clip on the edge turns to release the two panes of glass, and the photograph sits between them.

Why are there marks on the joins?

The brass is soldered round the glass by hand, and the weld marks that leaves are not dressed away.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent dust and dirt building up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass.
