Cotswold Lane 2 Light Outdoor Wall Lantern - Black

The Cotswold Lane is a 521mm outdoor wall lantern with a black die-cast metal frame surrounding clear bevelled glass panes and housing two E14 candle bulbs (sold separately). The frame takes design cues from early 20th-century gas lanterns, with vertical ribs across the glass panels, a fluted top hood with architectural detailing, and a shaped wall plate with a scrolled mounting arm.

Designed for external installation on front and rear elevations, porches, covered patios and garage walls, the lantern carries an IP44 rating for protection against solid objects over 1mm and water splashing from any direction. This makes it suitable for locations exposed to rain but not direct water jets. The 295mm projection from the wall positions the lantern clear of most masonry finishes and the two E14 fittings provide enough output for entrance lighting when fitted with 40-60W filament-style LED candles.

The bevelled glass panes are cut at angles around the edges to catch and refract light from the two bulbs inside, creating small prismatic reflections across the glass surface when lit. The black powder-coated finish on the metal frame resists corrosion in coastal and high-rainfall climates and pairs with black window frames, guttering and downpipes on both traditional and contemporary architecture. The fixture weighs approximately 2.5kg and fixes to standard UK back boxes or directly to masonry via the mounting plate.

What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?

IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects over 1mm and water splashing from any direction. It's suitable for exposed external walls, porches and covered patios but not areas subject to direct water jets or submersion. Avoid installing where the lantern would sit directly under a gutter downpipe overflow.

What bulbs does it take?

The lantern takes two E14 small Edison screw (candle) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W (equivalent to 40W filament) at 2700K for traditional outdoor entrance lighting.

Can it be installed on a porch or under a canopy?

Yes. The IP44 rating makes it suitable for installation on covered porches, under eaves, and on walls beneath canopies or overhangs. The 295mm projection means the lantern extends beyond the typical 200-250mm soffit depth on most porches.

How is the glass cleaned?

The bevelled glass panels can be wiped with warm water and a soft cloth. For stubborn marks use diluted washing-up liquid and rinse with clean water. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can scratch the bevelled edges or damage the powder-coated metal frame.
