Description
The Copenhagen is an outdoor wall lantern built from 304-grade stainless steel with a silver powder coat finish, designed to withstand coastal environments where salt air and moisture accelerate corrosion in lower-grade metals. The fitting comprises a circular wall plate, a horizontal arm, and a multi-layered shade assembly: a top hat cover, an upper deflector ring, a clear cylindrical glass section, a lower deflector ring, and a frosted glass globe at the base housing a single E27 bulb socket.
Designed for external walls on patios, porches, garden entrances and coastal properties, the Copenhagen projects 260mm from the wall and stands 236mm tall with a 220mm diameter shade. The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction and solid objects above 1mm, making it suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as under eaves, in porch recesses, or on walls facing away from prevailing wind-driven rain. The layered shade directs light downwards and outwards while the clear glass section allows some upward spill.
The 304-grade stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel, giving it superior resistance to pitting and surface corrosion compared to 201 or 430-grade steels commonly used in budget outdoor fittings. The powder coat adds a second barrier, bonding electrostatically to the metal before being cured at high temperature. The layered shade design is influenced by mid-century Scandinavian lantern styles, pairing a functional multi-deflector system with a restrained industrial profile that works across both traditional and contemporary architectural settings.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Copenhagen take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor ambient lighting. The frosted globe at the base diffuses the light source.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
Yes. The 304-grade stainless steel construction offers superior corrosion resistance in coastal environments compared to lower-grade steels or aluminium alloy fittings. The powder coat finish provides an additional protective layer against salt air and moisture.
Can it be used in fully exposed positions?
The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as under eaves, in porch recesses, or on walls not directly facing prevailing wind-driven rain. It is not rated for continuous water jets (IP65) or submersion.
How is the lantern cleaned and maintained?
Wipe the stainless steel and glass surfaces with a soft damp cloth. For stubborn marks or salt deposits, use a mild detergent solution and rinse with clean water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that can scratch the powder coat or glass.
