Description

The Cooper is a 170mm white outdoor wall light with an integrated 20W LED and a built-in PIR motion sensor. The sensor activates the 1700lm 3000K LED when movement is detected within range, providing hands-free exterior lighting for porches, driveways and side entrances. The IP54 rating protects the internal components against dust ingress and water spray from any direction.

Designed for mounting on external walls at typical door-height (1.8-2.2m), the Cooper's PIR sensor can be adjusted to control detection range and duration settings, allowing the light to remain on for a set period after the last movement is detected. The 120° beam angle casts light across a wide area, covering typical front door widths and adjacent pathway sections without creating harsh spot effects. The white powder-coated aluminium housing pairs with white-painted render, white UPVC window frames and light-coloured masonry.

The 20W LED delivers 1700 lumens at 3000K colour temperature, producing a warm white light output comparable to a 150W halogen bulb but drawing significantly less power. The non-dimmable LED has a rated lifespan of 25,000 hours at full output. The housing measures 170mm wide by 160mm high with a 178mm projection from the wall, and the complete fitting weighs 1.3kg. Mains connection is via internal terminal block, accepting standard UK twin-and-earth cable.

The 1.3kg weight gives the housing enough substance to resist wind movement once secured to brick, render or timber cladding. The 178mm projection holds the light source clear of the wall face, allowing the 120° beam to spread across the surface below rather than being blocked by the mounting plane.

Most PIR-equipped wall lights including the Cooper have adjustable detection range and time duration controls accessible behind the front cover or on the sensor module itself. Check the fitting instructions supplied with the product for the specific adjustment method on this model.

What height should it be mounted at?

PIR sensors work most effectively when mounted at 1.8-2.2m height, which is typical door-frame height. Mounting too low reduces detection range; mounting too high can create false triggers from small animals or windblown debris.

Is the LED replaceable?

No. The LED is integrated into the fitting and rated for 25,000 hours of operation. At typical security-light usage patterns (1-2 hours per day), this represents approximately 30-40 years before the LED reaches end of rated life.

Can it be used in fully exposed positions?

The IP54 rating protects against dust and water spray, making it suitable for covered porches, under eaves and on walls sheltered by overhangs. For fully exposed positions subject to direct driving rain, an IP65-rated fitting would provide better long-term protection.
