Description
The Collier is a 346mm diameter flush ceiling light with a circular black oxide metal frame and a frosted glass dome diffuser. The fitting projects 124mm from the ceiling and houses two E27 bulb sockets (bulbs sold separately). The black oxide finish provides a dark, softly matte surface that reads as charcoal grey or near-black depending on the light angle, with a subtle metallic sheen distinct from flat matt black.
Designed for hallways, bedrooms, utility rooms and kitchens with ceiling heights of 2.1-2.5m where a low-profile fitting is needed, the Collier distributes light evenly across the ceiling plane without projecting into the vertical space. The frosted glass diffuser prevents glare and spreads the light from both bulbs into a broad, soft wash. The 346mm diameter suits rooms of 8-12m² where a single ceiling fitting is the primary light source, or can be used in multiples along hallways and corridors.
The black oxide frame has two decorative raised ridges running horizontally around the circumference, adding a period detail that references early-to-mid 20th-century industrial and municipal lighting. The Collier is part of Hinkley Lighting's permanent collection, designed in the USA and assembled with precision metalwork and glass components. The fitting weighs approximately 1.2kg and mounts to a standard UK ceiling rose via a metal backplate.

Frequently Asked
Is the Collier suitable for low ceilings?
Yes. The 124mm ceiling projection makes it appropriate for rooms with ceiling heights as low as 2.1m, where semi-flush or pendant fittings would encroach into the usable vertical space. The shallow profile keeps the ceiling feeling open.
What bulb is recommended?
The fitting takes two E27 bulbs up to 40W each (sold separately). Most users pair it with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K. The frosted glass diffuser works well with visible-filament LED bulbs where the filament pattern is part of the aesthetic.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The Collier carries no IP rating and is designed for dry indoor use only. It is not suitable for installation within bathroom zones where moisture or water spray may be present.
How is the black oxide finish different from matt black?
Black oxide is a chemical conversion coating applied to metal that produces a dark, slightly metallic finish with subtle tonal variation. It reads as charcoal grey or near-black depending on the light angle, and has a softer sheen than flat matt black powder coating.
