Description

The Clarke is a single-light wall fitting with a darkened brass arm extending from a circular backplate, supporting an ivory linen shade held within a brass wire frame. A pull-chain switch hanging from the bulb socket allows the light to be turned on and off without wiring to a wall switch, making it practical for bedside positions, hallway alcoves or any location where fixed switching is unavailable.

Designed for bedrooms, hallways, dressing rooms and living rooms, the Clarke suits both symmetrical paired installation flanking a bed or mirror and solo placement above console tables or in entryways. The 222mm projection clears typical furniture depths while keeping the shade close enough to the wall to avoid head clearance issues in circulation spaces. The linen shade diffuses light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately, max 40W) into a soft ambient glow rather than a focused beam.

The darkened brass finish is a warm antique tone with subtle patina variation across the surface, sitting between polished brass and oil-rubbed bronze in warmth. The ivory linen shade contrasts gently with the metal frame without creating harsh tonal shifts, and the natural fabric texture shows through when the light is on. The wire frame around the shade is minimal enough not to cast heavy shadows but provides structure to keep the linen taut and square to the wall.

What bulb does the Clarke take?

It takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-8W at 2700K for bedside or hallway use.

Does the pull switch replace the need for a wall switch?

The pull switch allows you to turn the light on and off at the fitting itself, so you don't need a switched circuit. However, the fitting still requires permanent live and neutral wiring to the backplate. If you want to turn the light off at the wall rather than by pulling the chain, you can wire it to a switched circuit and leave the pull switch in the 'on' position.

Can the shade be replaced or cleaned?

The ivory linen shade is held in place by the brass wire frame and can be removed for cleaning or replacement. Linen is best cleaned with a soft brush or vacuum attachment to remove dust. Spot-cleaning with a barely-damp cloth is acceptable for marks, but avoid soaking the fabric.

What spacing is recommended when installing in pairs?

For bedside installation, space the fittings 1.2-1.5m apart (centre-to-centre) above a standard double or king bed. For flanking a mirror or vanity, position them 600-900mm either side of the centre line depending on the width of the mirror.
