Description

This is a storage basket with a lid, shaped like an ice cream cone to bring some fun to tidying a child's room. The base is woven seagrass in its natural colour, wrapped in a raised criss-cross lattice that recalls the pattern of a wafer cone, and the domed lid rises in stepped rings to a little peak, like a swirl of soft ice cream. Small yarn stitches are scattered over the lid as sprinkles. It stands 41cm tall and 28cm across, a good floor-standing size for a nursery or playroom, and it weighs 0.8KG, so it is easy to carry from one room to the next.

In a kids' room it does the everyday job of gathering soft toys, wooden toys, small blankets or dressing-up clothes from the floor at the end of the day, and with the lid in place the clutter is out of sight. Because it looks like a treat rather than a box, it turns tidying up into part of the game. It sits happily beside a bed, at the end of a shelf unit or in a reading corner, and it is just as much at home in a grown-up living room holding throws or magazines.

The material is 65% seagrass, 30% steel and 5% wool. Seagrass is a tough grass fibre with a naturally uneven texture, which gives the weave plenty of character. The lid rests on a wide woven rim and lifts clear in one piece, leaving the whole opening free for little hands to fill. Because the lid has no hinge, it can sit beside the basket during play and go straight back once the floor is clear. As a styling note, set it on a soft rug among wooden toys in gentle tones, where the woven texture and the cheerful sprinkles on the lid can do their work. The styling props shown are not included.
