Description
This is a round stoneware bowl, 24cm across and 7cm tall, painted by hand with broad pink stripes around the outside and the word CHIPS lettered in capitals on the side. Look inside and you find a different pattern altogether: small painted dots set in rings that spread out from the centre to the scalloped rim. It is made entirely of stoneware and weighs 1.08KG, so it feels solid and substantial in the hand rather than delicate.
We see it first as a decorative piece for the kitchen: on an open shelf, a dresser or a windowsill, it brings a cheerful flash of pink to a row of plainer pieces. At 24cm across it is wide enough to work as a catch-all too, so it earns a place in a hallway for keys and loose change, or on a dressing table for hair ties, rings and other jewellery. It makes a good-humoured gift for someone setting up a first home, or for anyone who likes their kitchen to have a sense of fun.
The finish is hand painted, and it shows in the stripes, which have the soft edges and slight unevenness of a brush rather than a crisp printed line. The dots inside are painted the same way, and the rim is shaped in gentle scallops all the way round. The maker does not give care instructions, so we would handle it as you would any painted piece you want to keep looking its best. For styling, place it where both sides can be enjoyed: the stripes and lettering face the room from a low shelf, while the dotted interior shows best from above on a table or counter.

Frequently Asked
What is the bowl made of?
It is made of 100% stoneware, with a hand-painted finish of pink stripes on the outside and small painted dots on the inside.
How big is the bowl?
It is 24cm across and 7cm tall, a wide and fairly shallow round bowl, and it weighs 1.08KG.
Is the pattern printed or painted?
The finish is hand painted, so the stripes and dots show the soft, slightly irregular edges of a brush rather than a crisp printed line.
What does the inside of the bowl look like?
Inside, small painted dots are arranged in rings spreading from the centre out to the scalloped rim, quite different from the striped outside.
What can I use it for around the home?
We suggest it as a decorative bowl for a kitchen shelf or dresser, or as a catch-all for keys, jewellery and hair ties in a hallway or bedroom.
