Description

Charlie is a child's chair built around a dog. Both side panels are cut in the outline of a long-eared dog. Each has a separate ear fixed on at the head and painted stripes running round its body like a jumper, and the seat and backrest sit between the two. The dogs' paws reach the floor as part of the chair's footing, alongside two straight legs. It is made of MDF with a painted, multicoloured finish and measures 44cm long, 33cm wide and 57cm tall. At 4.67KG it feels like proper furniture rather than a toy, yet it is light enough for an adult to carry from one room to another.

Sized for a child rather than an adult, it belongs in a playroom, a child's bedroom or the corner of a room set aside for reading, anywhere a small person wants a seat of their own. Pull it up to a child's table for drawing, puzzles and building blocks, or stand it beside a low bookshelf where picture books and a favourite cuddly toy can wait on the seat between sessions. It works just as well in a grandparent's house, where a proper small chair saves borrowing a footstool or perching on the sofa.

The chair is painted MDF, a dense, even board with no grain, so the paint lies smooth across the broad flat panels and the cut edges alike. The panels are joined with visible screw fixings, and the chair arrives ready to put together at home; the maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. Because the outline reads best from the side, place it where the dog can be seen in profile, against a plain wall or at the foot of a bed, rather than pushed in under a table where only the backrest shows.

Frequently Asked

What is the Charlie chair made of?

It is made of MDF with a painted finish, so the side panels, seat and backrest all carry the same smooth, multicoloured paintwork.

How big is the chair and how heavy is it?

It measures 44cm long, 33cm wide and 57cm tall, a child-sized chair, and it weighs 4.67KG, so an adult can move it easily between rooms.

Does the chair need assembling?

Yes. The panels are joined with screw fixings, and the maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download, so you can read them before you start.

Are both sides of the chair shaped like a dog?

Yes. Both side panels are cut as a long-eared dog, each with its own separate ear and painted stripes, so the chair looks good from either side.

Where does the chair work best?

It suits a playroom, a child's bedroom or a reading spot. Pull it up to a child's table for drawing and puzzles, or set it beside a low bookshelf.
