Description

A bottle vase in clear glass, 31.5cm high and 12cm across, with a brass collar set around its neck. The body is a plain cylinder with a soft shoulder, and the surface carries a shallow hammered dimpling that shows against the light rather than under the hand. Above the collar the glass opens out into a flat disc of a lip. The brass is an aged tone running from honey to a darker brown around the band, and the glass keeps a faint green cast at the foot where the wall thickens.

The neck inside the collar is narrow against the 12cm body, so a few long stems stand upright in it on their own and a single branch holds straight rather than leaning on the rim. It takes 2375ml, which is enough water for tall stems without filling to the shoulder. At 31.5cm it reads from across a room on a sideboard or at the end of a dining table, and it stands beside a shorter bottle from the same range.

The glass is recycled, crushed and melted down before it is blown. On these bottles the glass is blown up through the brass ring rather than the ring being fitted afterwards, which is why solder marks often show on the brass. Four other bottles are made in the same clear glass and brass, from 15cm up to 39cm.
