Description
The Chapel is a compact outdoor down wall lantern in black die-cast aluminium with clear glass panels and a single E27 bulb fitting. The lantern measures 380mm in height and mounts on a hexagonal backplate, casting light downwards through the base of the lantern body. The IP44 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, under eaves, and sheltered patio walls.
Designed for residential entrances, side doors, garages and cottage exteriors where a compact traditional profile is needed, the Chapel provides functional task lighting without dominating smaller architectural features. The downward light distribution focuses illumination on the ground immediately below the fitting, making it useful for lighting doorsteps, paths adjacent to walls, and outdoor seating areas under cover. The E27 socket accepts standard LED, CFL or filament bulbs up to the maximum wattage specified in the table below (bulb sold separately).
The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion and impact damage in outdoor conditions, while the black powdercoat finish pairs with traditional black ironmongery, slate roofs, and darker masonry. The clear glass maximises light output without filtering or diffusing the bulb, making this fitting more task-focused than decorative lanterns with frosted or seeded glass. The hexagonal backplate and traditional lantern proportions reference Georgian and Victorian outdoor lighting, suiting period properties and new-build homes designed with classical details.

Frequently Asked
What IP rating does it carry?
IP44. This protects against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction. The lantern is suitable for covered outdoor locations such as porches, under eaves, and sheltered patio walls, but should not be exposed to direct rainfall or hose washing.
What bulb does it take?
The Chapel takes one E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor task lighting. Check the Specification table for the maximum wattage.
Can it be used on an exposed wall?
The IP44 rating provides splash protection but not weatherproofing against prolonged exposure to rain. The lantern performs best under eaves, porch canopies or other shelter that keeps direct rainfall off the glass panels and mounting backplate.
How is the black finish maintained?
Wipe the aluminium frame with a soft damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. For stubborn marks, use a mild solution of washing-up liquid and water, then rinse with clean water and dry. Avoid abrasive cleaners or wire brushes that can scratch the powdercoat finish.
