Description

The Chamonix is a 170mm square outdoor LED light with a layered anthracite frame that creates a three-dimensional cube structure around an opal diffuser panel. An integrated 9W LED sits behind the diffuser, producing 725 lumens of 3000K warm white light that radiates through the panel and reflects off the inner frame surfaces. The anthracite powder-coated aluminium frame contrasts with the white diffuser, giving the fitting a defined geometric profile when viewed from any angle.

Designed for both wall and ceiling mounting on outdoor spaces rated IP65, the Chamonix suits patios, covered entrance canopies, garden room exteriors and verandas. The 136° beam angle spreads light broadly rather than creating a focused downlight pool, making it more suitable for ambient wash lighting across a wall surface or for general area illumination on a patio ceiling than for pathway marking. The 100mm projection from the wall gives the fitting physical presence without protruding excessively on narrow walkways.

The IP65 rating protects the LED module and driver against water jets and dust ingress, allowing the fitting to handle UK weather conditions including driving rain. The anthracite finish is a dark grey-black powder coat over aluminium, which resists UV fade and corrosion better than painted steel. The fitting weighs 1.22kg and fixes to a standard outdoor junction box via the rear mounting plate, with cable entry through the back of the housing.

The Chamonix is part of Mantra's architectural outdoor range and shares the layered frame design with other models in the series. The integrated LED is non-replaceable but rated for 25,000+ hours of operation, which equates to approximately 10 years of typical evening use. The fitting is not dimmable and operates on 100-240V mains.

Can this be used on a ceiling as well as a wall?

Yes. The Chamonix is designed for both wall and ceiling mounting. The rear mounting plate accepts standard outdoor junction boxes in either orientation, and the opal diffuser remains functional whether the light faces sideways on a wall or downward on a ceiling.

What does IP65 mean for outdoor use?

IP65 means the fitting is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. This allows it to handle typical UK weather including heavy rain, but it should not be submerged or installed where it will be directly exposed to high-pressure water cleaning.

Is the LED replaceable?

No. The 9W LED is integrated into the fitting and cannot be replaced. However, the LED is rated for 25,000+ hours of operation, which equates to approximately 10 years of typical evening use before noticeable light degradation occurs.

How is the fitting wired?

Cable entry is through the back of the housing. The fitting connects to mains via a standard outdoor junction box fixed to the wall or ceiling surface. A qualified electrician should carry out the installation to ensure correct IP65 sealing and compliance with Part P Building Regulations.
