Description

The Chakai flush fitting takes the same shallow mango wood disc and brass cage and mounts them close under the ceiling on a short brass stem. A round brass plate fixes overhead, the stem drops a few centimetres through a turned collar, and the wooden disc sits below it with the open cage beneath holding the bulb. It measures 25cm across and hangs 16cm below the ceiling.

Sixteen centimetres is the whole point. A pendant on a flex needs headroom; this does not, so it goes in a hallway, a landing, a small bedroom or under a low beam where anything hanging would be in the way. It still throws all of its light downward, because the wooden disc is solid, and the bulb stays visible through the open cage. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W, it is dimmable, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The disc is mango wood and the plate, stem and cage are aluminium finished in brass. Each disc is turned from its own boards, so the grain and the tone differ between fittings. The Chakai range also holds pendant versions in two sizes. Bulbs are not included.

Frequently Asked

How much headroom does it take?

16cm below the ceiling. Under a 2.4m ceiling that leaves well over 2.2m clear, which is why it suits a hallway or a low beamed room.

Is it the same as the pendant?

The same disc and cage, mounted on a short stem instead of a flex. The pendants are 25.5cm and 45.5cm across and hang free; this one sits close to the ceiling.

Will the bulb be visible?

Yes, through the open cage, and from below it is the brightest thing in the fitting.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off at the wall and let the bulb cool, then a soft dry cloth on the wood and a soft brush through the cage.
