Description

The Chakai is a wall light with a shallow domed shade turned from mango wood, and under it an open cage of brass wires curving down and in to a small ring, so the bulb sits inside the cage in plain sight. A brass swan neck rises from a round wall plate, bends over and drops to the shade. The plate fixes on two visible bolts. The wood carries strong grain and the edge of the dome is not quite even. It is 28cm tall, 25cm wide, and projects 35cm from the wall.

The cage leaves the bulb open, so light goes out sideways and down as well as being thrown back off the wood above it. It is a fitting to put where it will be looked at rather than hidden: over a sofa, beside an armchair, above a bed. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W, it works on a dimmer, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The shade is mango wood and the neck, plate and cage are aluminium under an antique brass finish. Mango wood shifts in tone as it ages, so the colour will not stay exactly as it arrives.

Frequently Asked

Is the bulb visible?

Yes. The cage under the wood dome is open, so the bulb shows through it from every side.

Can it go on a dimmer?

Yes.

What bulb does it take?

One E27, up to 40W.

Will the wood change colour?

Mango wood shifts in tone over time, so it will not stay exactly as it arrives.

How do I clean it?
