Description

The Chaaval is a hand-blown glass storage jar with a mango wood lid, 17cm tall and 14cm across, holding 1400ml. The glass is a plain tapering cone, widest at the foot and drawn in steadily to a short straight neck, with a thick rolled base and a faint green cast where the glass runs heaviest. The lid is a solid disc of mango wood with an arch cut through it for a handle, and a turned plug underneath that drops inside the neck and holds it there.

This is the small of two, at 1400ml, and it takes grains, pasta and dried pulses. The glass is clear the whole way round, so what is inside is visible without a label. The cut-out in the lid takes a finger, so the jar opens with one hand.

The glass is blown by hand, so no two jars take exactly the same form. The lids are turned from sustainably sourced mango wood and sanded to sit snugly in the neck, each one carrying its own grain. The range runs to two sizes in the same shape. The jar is for dry food only.
