Cable this plain does a good deal of quiet work. The sheath is clear, so the three cores show through it, and each core is 0.75mm. It carries VDE approval. It is sold by the metre, and however many metres you order will arrive as one continuous piece rather than a handful of short offcuts, which saves waste when you are working out the drop for a pendant.

The clear sheath is smooth and flexible, coiling and uncoiling without kinking, which helps when you are measuring a length off before cutting. Because nothing is hidden, dust and finger marks show sooner than they would on a dark cable, so a dry cloth drawn along the run every so often keeps it looking fresh, and it is worth casting an eye over the length for nicks or crushing before it is put to work. How is the cable supplied if I order several metres?

Each unit is 1m, and the quantity you order is cut and sent as one continuous length, so ordering four gives you a single 4m piece rather than four separate metres.

What is the outside diameter?

Roughly 6mm across the clear sheath, which keeps it slim enough to pass through most cord grips and ceiling roses without fuss.

Why choose three cores rather than two?

The third core is the earth, so this is the version to use with fittings that have a metal body or any lamp that calls for an earth connection.

What does VDE approval mean here?

It is a European safety approval for the cable itself, covering how the insulation and conductors are made and tested.

How do I keep clear cable looking clean?

Wipe along the length with a dry or barely damp cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive creams, as they can cloud or scratch the transparent sheath.

Can I use it as a longer suspension for a pendant?

It is a standard 0.75mm three core flex, so it is the right sort of cable for lengthening a lamp's flex, provided the fitting is rated for the load and the work is done by a competent electrician.
