Cavo Braided Twisted Copper Cable 3 Core 0.75mm - Brown

Brown braided flex with a twisted, three core make-up, supplied in a single continuous length so you can run it from the ceiling rose to the fitting without a join. The outer braid gives a soft textile look, and the round section stays tidy where it is on show. Conductors are 0.75mm, which suits the everyday run of pendants and table lamps. It is VDE approved. We sell it by the metre, and it is what we reach for when someone brings in a pendant that needs a fresh cord.

It earns its keep on rewiring: a pendant whose old cord has gone brittle, a lamp bought at auction, a shade that wants a longer drop over a kitchen table. The brown sits warm against oak, brick and brass, where black flex can look stark. We would choose it for a hallway pendant or a pair above an island, and it works just as well on a floor lamp where the flex trails visibly across the boards. Keep it to dry indoor rooms; steamy kitchens and bathrooms are not its place.

The braid is woven over twisted cores and brown along the whole length. To keep it looking right, run a dry cloth along the weave now and then to lift dust, and switch off at the wall before handling any flex already wired in. It carries a one year warranty. It is sold in metre units and the full quantity ordered arrives as one continuous length, so a 3m order comes as a single 3m piece rather than three separate metres.

How thick is the cable overall?

The outer diameter is 5.3mm, which passes comfortably through most standard cord grips and ceiling rose entries.

What do the three cores mean in practice?

Three cores allow live, neutral and earth, so it can be used with fittings that require an earth connection as well as those that do not.

Is it suitable for bathrooms or outdoor use?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it away from wet areas, unheated outbuildings and anywhere exposed to weather.

How do I clean the braid?

A dry cloth or a soft brush along the weave lifts dust. Avoid soaking the braid or using solvents, as damp and chemicals can mark the covering.
