Description

A black braided flex for lamp and pendant work, supplied as one continuous run rather than in separate cut pieces. Three cores of 0.75mm give live, neutral and earth, so it serves metal fittings that need an earth as well as straightforward lamp rewires. The woven cover sits over the insulation to make a round cord about 6mm across, with a soft textile feel and rather more grip in the hand than bare PVC. It is VDE approved.

We reach for this one when the cord is going to be seen: hanging a pendant at length, or making up a new flex for a table or floor lamp where the old one has gone brittle and yellow. Black braid keeps quiet against dark ceilings and dark walls, and looks right alongside brass, copper, blackened steel and matt black shades. It suits anyone bringing a tired lamp back into use, and equally anyone building a fitting up from separate parts. Work out the full run you want and order it as a single length.

The braid is woven rather than printed, so the colour runs through the covering and will not scuff away in handling, and it holds a flat black with only the faint sheen the weave gives it. It carries a one year warranty. To keep it looking well, run a dry cloth along the length when you dust the fitting, and keep the cord clear of hot lamp bodies and sharp edges so the weave stays unbroken.
