Description

A woven gold sleeve over a two-core 0.75mm flex, ordered by the metre and supplied as a single continuous run rather than in cut pieces. The braid has a soft sheen that picks up light along its whole length, so a visible drop of cord reads as part of the fitting rather than something to be tucked away. It is VDE approved. We keep it on the shelf next to our pendant sets and lamp holders, because a gold cord is the quickest way to warm up a plain brass holder or a bare bulb pendant.

It earns its keep anywhere the flex is on show from top to bottom: a kitchen island, a stairwell drop, a row of pendants over a counter, or a reading lamp where the cable falls down the side of a table. It is a favourite with anyone making up their own pendants or putting a well loved old lamp back into service, and it is one we reach for when a ceiling is high and the cord has a long way to travel before it reaches the shade.

The braid is closely woven, so it holds its shape when the cable is coiled and does not go slack at the ends. Gold sits happily with brass, antique brass and warm woods, and reads well against a dark painted ceiling. To keep it looking fresh, run a dry cloth along the braid now and then to lift dust, and keep polishes and solvents away from it, as they flatten the shine. It carries a one year warranty. If gold is not the note you are after, we stock the same braided flex in white, black, red, blue, purple and lime green, and the range also runs to clear and black PVC cable if you would rather the cord disappeared.
