Description

The Caminante is a 218cm standing sculpture combining a human figure cast in matte black fiberglass and polyester resin with a metal ring fitted with an integrated LED strip. The figure appears mid-stride, stepping through the 132cm diameter ring which glows with warm 3000K light at 515 lumens from a concealed 4.6W LED driver.

Designed for entrance halls, double-height atriums, stairwells and large open-plan living spaces with ceiling heights above 2.6m, the Caminante provides both sculpture and ambient architectural light. The black base measures 40cm deep and provides stability without needing floor fixings. The Class 2 electrical rating means it does not require earthing, simplifying installation on wood, tile or stone floors.

The matte black finish absorbs surrounding light during the day, making the form read as a dark silhouette. When the LED ring is switched on in the evening, the glow highlights the figure's posture and casts a halo of warm light onto adjacent walls and ceilings. The fiberglass and resin construction keeps the weight to 16.2kg despite the 2.18m height, making it manageable for two people to position without mechanical assistance.

The Caminante is part of Schuller's sculptural lighting collection, where Spanish design meets functional art. The figure's proportions follow classical contrapposto — weight shifted to one leg, the opposing arm extended — a pose that has signified forward motion in sculpture since ancient Greece. Here it is paired with the circle, a geometric form that frames the figure and doubles as the light source.

Is the LED ring dimmable?

The integrated LED runs on mains voltage and is not dimmable without adding an external trailing-edge LED dimmer between the plug and the socket. Check the assembly instructions or contact us before pairing with a dimmer to confirm compatibility.

What ceiling height is needed?

The sculpture stands 218cm tall. Rooms with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above provide enough vertical clearance for the piece to be viewed comfortably without the ring appearing to touch the ceiling. Lower ceilings may make the sculpture feel cramped.

How is it assembled and installed?

The sculpture ships in sections. The base, figure and ring are assembled on-site following the provided instruction sheet (see Downloads tab). Once assembled, the piece stands freely on its base and plugs into a standard UK socket. No floor fixings are required.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. The Caminante carries no IP rating and is designed for dry indoor use only. The fiberglass and resin materials are not weatherproof and the Class 2 electrical components are not sealed against moisture.
