Description

The Calverdale cut linear pendant sets four faceted cut glass shades in a straight line on an antique brass frame, with a drop that adjusts from 450mm to 1790mm when it is installed. The cut surfaces break the light into small points rather than pushing all of it straight down, which softens the effect over a hard worktop. Each shade takes an E14 LED lamp at 6W, four in all, and the fitting weighs 8.1kg.

A bar shaped pendant follows the line of a long surface, so it suits a kitchen island, a run of counter, a narrow dining table or a hall console where a single round ceiling light would leave the ends dim. Four lamps give an even spread along the length, bright enough to cook and eat under, and it is dimmable with compatible LED lamps and a dimmer switch when you want the room quieter. The warm brass reads well against oak, painted cabinetry and darker walls. We would measure the surface first and centre the bar on that, not on the ceiling.

The bar and gallery are metal in an antique brass finish, aged rather than shiny, and the glass shades come away for washing in warm water. Dry them before refitting and keep a dry soft cloth for the brass, as polish and spray cleaners will thin the finish where they gather. Levelling and wiring is work for a qualified electrician, with the fixing ideally into a joist. The Calverdale range also includes a floor lamp in the same cut glass, and this pendant is made in bright nickel too.
