Description
This kids bookcase is a compact storage piece built around four open compartments, each holding a pull-out drawer with a cut-out handle at the top of its front. The painted fronts include animal heads with two rounded ears and a friendly face, sleepy eyes and freckled cheeks among them, alongside dots and stripes. The wood frame stands on four round legs, and the whole piece is made of paulownia and MDF with iron, measuring 55cm long, 26cm wide and 63cm tall.
At 63cm tall it is a low piece, so the drawers sit within easy reach of small hands and the top works as a handy shelf for a few favourite books. Being 55cm long and only 26cm wide, it stands neatly against a wall in a nursery, a child's bedroom or a playroom without eating into floor space. The open-topped drawers suit toys, soft toys, crayons and books, which simply drop in at tidy-up time, and each drawer slides out by its cut-out handle. Because the multicoloured fronts make each drawer easy to tell apart, a child can learn which face keeps the blocks and which keeps the books, so putting things away becomes a little game.
The finish is painted. Paulownia is one of the lightest timbers used in furniture, yet with MDF and iron in the build the bookcase weighs 9.16KG, so it is worth choosing its spot before you fill it. It needs putting together, and the maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. The styling props shown are not included. Keep the top for a short stack of picture books and a favourite toy or two, and lay a soft rug in front so the drawers become the centre of floor-level play.
