Description

We stock the Calipso as a compact GU10 downlight for focused light overhead. It has a cylindrical aluminium housing with a vertical fluted exterior finished in matt black, and it takes one GU10 bulb up to 10W (sold separately). The fluted casing doubles as a passive heat sink for the bulb, so it is a plain, low-profile fitting rather than a decorative one.

We reach for this Calipso in hallways, stairwells, utility rooms and entrance areas, wherever we want focused downward light without any fuss. It can be recessed into the ceiling or surface mounted, and the matt black finish keeps it quiet against dark ceilings or neutral walls. With an IP20 rating it is made for dry indoor rooms only, so we would not use it in a bathroom, wet room or outdoors.

The Calipso runs on standard 50Hz AC 220-240V mains and draws up to 10W. It is non-dimmable, so we pair it with a fixed-output GU10 LED rather than a dimmable one to avoid flicker; most people choose a 5-7W GU10 in warm white (3000K) or neutral white (4000K). The bulb is not included, and the aluminium body handles the heat the bulb gives off.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take, and is one included?

It takes a single GU10 bulb rated up to 10W, which is sold separately. We suggest a 5-7W GU10 LED so you can pick warm white (3000K) or neutral white (4000K) to suit the room.

Is it dimmable?

No, this fitting is non-dimmable. To avoid flicker or compatibility issues, choose a fixed-output GU10 LED rather than a dimmable one.

Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. It is rated IP20, which is for dry indoor rooms only. We would not fit it in a bathroom, wet room or any outdoor spot.

Can it be recessed, or does it surface mount?

Both. The Calipso is designed for either recessed or surface-mounted installation, so it suits hallways, stairwells, utility rooms and entrance areas.
