Description

This is a set of four ceramic espresso cups, each with its own saucer, and every pair carries a different pattern: a scatter of fine dots, rows of wheel-like flowers, a band of blooms and leaves, and an open floral lattice. Each cup holds 80ml, a proper espresso size rather than a mug, and stands 5.5cm tall and 6cm across, with a small rounded loop handle. The saucers are 11.5cm across, with each cup's pattern carried around the rim and finished with a fine contrasting line, so the four sit together as a multicoloured group on the table.

These are cups for the short, strong coffee after lunch, a weekend macchiato, or a small hot chocolate for someone who only wants a taste. Kept on the kitchen counter beside the coffee machine, they keep the morning routine within reach. After a dinner with friends, four different patterns mean nobody loses track of which cup is theirs. They suit a kitchen dresser, a breakfast table or a dining room with open shelving, and a household that likes pattern but would rather the pieces did not all match exactly.

The pattern is a decal print finished with hand-painted details. The cups and saucers go in the dishwasher, and they can also go in the microwave and the oven, so a cup can be warmed before pouring. The styling props shown are not included. On a practical note, keep the saucers stacked in a cupboard and line the four cups along an open shelf, where the different patterns can be seen side by side. Set beside plain plates, they bring pattern to the table without crowding it.
