Description

A bottle opener cast in solid brass, 11.5cm long and 3.5cm across at its widest. It is made in one piece: a rounded oval head with the opening cut through it, a waist that narrows into the grip, and a broad rounded tail that fills the palm. The surface is smooth, carrying the faint mottling that casting leaves, and the finish is a soft vintage gold rather than a bright one.

At 11.5cm it is a hand-sized tool rather than a bar fixture, so it lives in a drawer, on a tray or with the glasses. The shape puts the whole of it in the palm, with the head over the cap, instead of asking to be pinched between finger and thumb. It weighs 90 grams.

The opener is brass throughout and cast rather than pressed, so the weight is in the metal itself and there is no handle wrapped round a core. The surface is left smooth and the vintage gold is soft rather than bright, closer to old brass than to plate. It is sold singly.
