Description

A table runner braided from hemp, 180cm long and 35cm wide. Narrow cords are plaited and then stitched side by side, so the surface reads as a close herringbone rather than a flat weave, and a plain band of the same braid runs round all four edges. The fibre is left in its own tone, running from pale straw to a deeper gold where individual strands are darker.

At 180cm the runner reaches end to end down a table of that length and will overhang a shorter one. The 35cm width leaves the outer part of most dining tables clear for plates. The braid is a centimetre thick, so the runner stands slightly proud of the table surface.

The runner is hemp throughout. Hemp spins into a strong thread and grows densely enough to crowd out weeds, so it needs no pesticides. The same braid is made up as rugs and as a floor runner.
