Description
These are side plates in cream stoneware, sold as a set of four, each painted to look like a wrapped present. A ribbon runs across the plate in both directions and meets in a bow that stands proud of the surface, with small dots scattered over the rest. Each plate is 20.5cm across and 2cm tall, the classic side plate size: smaller than a dinner plate and just right for a slice of cake, a couple of biscuits or a mince pie. Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, well suited to plates that are used often.
They are made for the Christmas table. Set them out on Christmas morning with toast and pastries, pass them round with stollen in the afternoon, or keep a stack by the kettle through December for whoever drops in. Four plates suit a family table or a small gathering of friends, and because they can go in the microwave, a mince pie can go straight on the plate for a quick warm. They also make a cheerful gift for someone who hosts every year, looking like a present before they are even wrapped.
The pattern is hand-painted, and the bow is modelled in relief, so you can feel its folds and knot under a fingertip. The plates go in the dishwasher and the microwave, but not in the oven, so warm anything baked on a tray first and plate it afterwards. The bow sits towards the top of the plate and rises above the surface, so lay food in the open area beside and below it rather than across it. For the table, stack them on a plain tablecloth and let the ribbons do the decorating, or set one at each place on a larger dinner plate for a layered Christmas setting.

Frequently Asked
Can these plates go in the dishwasher and the microwave?
Yes, both. The plates can go in the dishwasher and the microwave, but they are not suitable for the oven, so keep them out of it.
What size are the plates?
Each plate is 20.5cm across and 2cm tall, a side plate size suited to cake, biscuits, toast or a mince pie rather than a full main course.
How many plates do I get?
You get four plates, all with the same hand-painted ribbon, bow and dot pattern, so they match one another around the table.
What are the plates made of?
They are made of 100% stoneware with a hand-painted finish. Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic that suits plates in regular use.
Is the bow raised on the plate?
Yes. The bow is modelled in relief and stands above the surface of the plate, so food is best placed in the open area around it.
