Description

The Boreal is a five light multi pendant light built from five stacked alabaster cylinders, forming a single slim column 108cm tall. Each cylindrical shade is 12cm across, and the column hangs from a gold cap on a gold textile cable, with a ceiling canopy 14cm across. The light comes from an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to fit. It gives a warm white 3000K glow that passes through the stone and lights its veining from within, and with a 360° beam the light spreads all around the column rather than pooling beneath it. A CRI of 90 or more means colours in the room look true under it.

Its tall, narrow proportions suit a space with height to fill. Hang it down a stairwell, where the column follows the drop, in a double-height hallway or on a landing, or above a dining table in a room with a generous ceiling height, where its slim profile keeps sight lines open. It works as well in a bedroom corner or beside a reading chair, where the glow through the alabaster feels calm rather than bright. The look is modern and pared back, at home in a contemporary flat or an older house with high ceilings. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, and it comes on a 1.5m cable.

The shades are alabaster, a translucent stone, capped in gold and hung on a gold textile cable, so the warm gold frames the pale, veined stone. The integrated LED runs on a 220-240V supply, and as a mains fitting it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 5 year guarantee. For styling, let the column be the one tall vertical in the room: pair it with warm wood, linen and brushed brass, and keep the other lights nearby low, so the glow on the alabaster stays the focus.
