Description

Our Boreal pendant light is a multi-light pendant built as one tall column: four alabaster cylinders stacked one above another beneath a gold cap, hung from a gold textile cable. It is a four-light fitting lit by integrated LED, so there is no bulb to fit or replace. The light is a warm white at 3000K, and with a 360° beam it glows out through the stone all the way round, bringing up the soft, cloudy veining in the alabaster. The column is 86cm tall, each cylindrical shade is 12cm across, and the canopy at the ceiling is 14cm across.

Because it is so slim and tall, it suits places where a wide shade would crowd the room: a hallway or landing, a narrow alcove, the corner of a living room, or beside a bed in place of a table lamp. Hung in a pair or a row over a dining table, it draws the eye along the table without blocking the view across it. With a colour rendering index of 90 or more, food, faces and fabrics look true to colour beneath it. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. It hangs on 1.5m of cable, and its clean, modern lines sit well in a contemporary home.

The construction is simple: alabaster shades, a gold cap above them and a gold textile cable, with nothing to hide the stone. Alabaster lets light through, so when it is on the whole column glows softly rather than throwing a hard beam. It runs on 220-240V mains, is for a qualified electrician to install, and carries a 5 year guarantee. To style it, pair it with warm woods, linen and other gold or brass details that pick up the cap; against a plain wall it lets the stone do the talking.
