Description

A five-pointed star, 19cm across and 8cm deep, with every point built as a raised triangular panel pierced right through in a fine repeating pattern. The ribs between the panels are left solid, so the star reads as five cut faces held on a frame. It weighs 0.11kg.

The piercing is what it is for. Set over the top of a tree, the lights below shine up through the cut metal and throw the pattern onto the wall and the ceiling behind it. That works on a tree with lights carried into the upper branches and does nothing on one lit only around the base. It seats over the leading shoot rather than clipping on.

The metal is iron under a brass finish. Each pattern is cut by hand with traditional tools, so the piercing varies from star to star and no two throw quite the same shadow.
