Description

The Bequai is a shallow wall hung case, 50cm wide and 30.5cm high but only 4.5cm deep, built from brass soldered around clear glass with a mirrored back. Inside, a bar runs the full width carrying a row of small hooks along the top. Below that the case is divided in two: a stack of narrow glass shelves with a second row of hooks under them on one side, and a tall open compartment on the other. Two brass rings at the top corners take the fixings.

Necklaces hang from the top hooks at full length rather than going into a drawer, which is what stops the chains knotting together, and the glass shelves take earrings and rings flat where they can be seen. The back is mirrored. At 4.5cm deep it takes up almost no wall, and it hangs flat against it.

The metal is soldered around the glass with traditional tools, one joint at a time, so there are weld marks where the pieces meet. Those are left showing rather than worked out. The frame is brass under an antique brass finish and the panels are glass. The Bequai wall hung box is made in two widths, and the range also holds a honeycomb box and an open jewellery box.
