Description

This is a round stoneware bowl, 14cm across and 7cm tall, with broad blue stripes painted by hand around the outside. It holds 500ml, a generous everyday size for cereal, porridge, soup or a helping of noodles rather than a little dish for dips. Each stripe runs from the rim down to the base as a single sweep of the brush, so you can see the bristle marks and the small differences in width from one stripe to the next. Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, and at 0.414KG the bowl has a comfortable weight in the hand.

It suits the breakfast table first of all: morning cereal or yoghurt with fruit, then a bowl of soup at lunch or a side of salad at supper.
