Description

A drum shade in dual faux silk sets antique gold on the outside against a ruby lining, so the light picks up a warm blush as it passes through. Antique gold and ruby is a hotter pairing than most fabric shades offer. It measures 40cm across, and the suspension, ceiling plate and lamp holder are finished in polished chrome. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the base and softens the light thrown straight down. There is a single E27 lamp holder inside, and we would fit an LED GLS globe and leave it at that.

We reach for a pendant like this where a room needs a little colour overhead without a hard-edged shape: above a dining table, in a hallway, or centred in a bedroom. The drop adjusts from short, for a standard ceiling, out to a little over three metres, which covers a stairwell or a landing with height to fill. It will dim, given a compatible lamp and dimmer, which suits dining rooms and evening living rooms where you want the level brought down. It belongs in dry rooms indoors rather than a bathroom or a covered porch.

The faux silk is doubled so the gold and the ruby each keep their own face, and the metalwork is polished chrome throughout. Dust the fabric with a soft brush, and give the chrome and the acrylic a wipe with a dry cloth; leave solvents and polishes out of it. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not supplied. The wider range runs to semi-flush fixtures, drop flush plates and linear pendants for longer tables, and we stock the semi-flush version in antique brass, satin nickel and satin black alongside this chrome.
