A single E27 lamp sits inside a 40cm faux silk shade, midnight black across the outside and green olive within, so the fabric shifts tone as you move around it. Beneath it, a frosted acrylic diffuser spreads the light and keeps the lamp out of sight, so what falls on the table below is soft rather than sharp. Suspension, ceiling cup and diffuser trim are satin nickel, a low brushed sheen that keeps the metalwork quiet against the dark shade. We would use an LED GLS lamp here, up to 20W.

It is big enough to read as the main light in a room without dominating it, which makes it a fair choice above a dining table, over a kitchen worktop, or in a hallway that wants a little fabric warmth. The drop adjusts across a wide span, so it can sit low over a table or be taken up close to a tall landing ceiling. It is dimmable if you fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer switch, neither of which comes with it.

The shade is faux silk and the diffuser is acrylic rather than glass, which keeps the whole fitting light in the hand. Dust the fabric with a soft brush and wipe the acrylic with a barely damp cloth, power off and lamp cold before you start. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from bathrooms and anywhere steam gathers. It carries a one year warranty. The drop runs from 390mm at its shortest to 3310mm at its longest, so it works over a table or in a stairwell.

One E27 lamp, rated at no more than 20W. An LED GLS (A60) is the shape we would choose, and no lamp is supplied.

Can I dim it?

Yes, with a dimmable lamp and a suitable dimmer switch. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer is included.

How should I clean the fabric?

A soft brush or a gentle vacuum on low is enough for dust. Avoid sprays and solvents on the faux silk, and use only a barely damp cloth on the acrylic.
