The shade does the work here: taupe faux silk outside, a halo gold lining within, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closing the underside so the lamp is never in plain view. It measures 40cm across, deep enough to read as a proper drum rather than a shallow hat, and it hangs from a slim satin nickel suspension with a matching ceiling plate. Light leaves it warm and slightly gilded through the lining, and softer through the diffuser below.

The drop adjusts across a generous span, so it can hang low over a dining table or sit higher in a hallway where headroom is tight. We would use it over a kitchen island, above a bedside chair, or in a stairwell where a bare lamp would glare. It suits rooms with warm neutral walls and wood or brass touches, and it works just as well in a plainer white room that needs a little colour overhead. It takes a single E27 lamp, and a GLS LED is the one we reach for; with a compatible lamp and dimmer, it will dim.

Fabric shade, acrylic diffuser and plated metalwork above are all easy to keep in order. Brush the silk lightly or use the soft attachment on a vacuum, and wipe the diffuser with a barely damp cloth once the power is off and everything has gone cold. Keep it to dry rooms indoors rather than bathrooms or porches. It carries a one year warranty. What size is the shade?

It is 400mm in diameter with a shade height of 180mm, giving a drum shape rather than a tall cylinder.

How far down does it hang?

The suspension adjusts from a minimum drop of 390mm up to a maximum of 3310mm, which covers everything from a low ceiling to a stairwell.

Which lamp should I use?

One E27 lamp, up to 20W, with an LED GLS A60 recommended. Choose a warm white for the best effect through the gold lining.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp and a matching dimmer. No dimmer is supplied with the pendant.

What is the diffuser made of?

Frosted acrylic in a satin nickel surround, fitted across the base of the shade to soften the light and hide the lamp from below.

How do I clean the faux silk?

Dust it gently with a soft brush or a vacuum on low suction. Avoid sprays and damp cloths on the fabric, as they can mark the finish.
