A wide faux silk drum in ivory pearl, lined in white laminate, sits on a polished chrome frame and holds close to the ceiling. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the shade off, so the light arrives soft and level rather than in bright points overhead. Three E27 lamps sit behind it, which is enough for a main room light. At 50cm across it reads as a broad, calm circle from below, and the shallow body keeps everything tight to the ceiling line.

Flush fittings earn their place where a pendant would hang into the way: hallways, landings, bedrooms under a lower ceiling, a snug or a small sitting room. This one is generous enough in width to light a decent-sized room on its own, and the fabric softens the effect in a way a bare glass fitting will not. It will dim with suitable lamps and a matching dimmer, which we would set up in a bedroom and leave at full brightness in a hall. We reach for it whenever a room needs proper light without anything hanging into the space.

The shade is faux silk over a laminate lining, the metalwork is polished chrome and the diffuser acrylic. Keep the chrome bright with a dry cloth, and lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum rather than scrubbing at it; the acrylic wipes clean once the lamps are cold. Each holder takes up to 20W, and an LED GLS lamp suits it best. It carries a one year warranty. What size is it?

It measures 500mm in diameter and 220mm from the ceiling to the base of the diffuser, so it stays close overhead while covering a good width.

Which lamps does it take?

Three E27 lamps, up to 20W each. An LED GLS A60 shape is the sensible choice and will sit neatly behind the diffuser.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps together with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer are supplied.

How do I clean the faux silk shade?

Brush it gently with a soft brush, or use a vacuum upholstery head at low suction. Avoid water and sprays on the fabric; the chrome and acrylic can be wiped with a dry cloth.

Is the underside covered?

Yes. A frosted acrylic diffuser closes the base of the shade, spreading the light evenly rather than showing the lamps.
