Description

The Barossa is a 40.5cm tall square lantern with an aged gold metal frame featuring geometric fretwork pattern panels on all four sides, containing a removable hammered glass flute insert for candles. The metal frame is finished in a burnished gold with visible patina, and the hammered glass diffuses candlelight while protecting the flame from draughts.

Designed for indoor use or covered outdoor spaces such as conservatories, covered terraces and porches, the lantern suits candles up to 10cm diameter and 20cm height. The glass flute opening is 15cm diameter, allowing easy placement and removal of pillar candles. The wire handle arches 20cm above the frame top, making it easy to carry or hang from a ceiling hook or shepherd's crook stand.

The fretwork pattern is cut from the metal before the gold finish is applied, creating a grid of rectangular apertures that allow light to project geometric shadow patterns onto nearby surfaces when the candle is lit. The hammered texture on the glass flute adds a second layer of diffusion, softening the direct light while maintaining enough clarity to see the candle flame through the glass. The hand-applied gold finish is sensitive to moisture and should not be stored outdoors when not in use.

The Barossa is suitable for covered outdoor areas such as conservatories, covered patios and porches where it is protected from direct rain. The hand-applied gold finish is moisture-sensitive and should not be stored outdoors or left in direct weather.

What size candle does it take?

The glass flute opening is 15cm diameter and suits pillar candles up to 10cm diameter and 20cm height. The hammered glass insert is removable for placing and replacing candles.

Is the glass flute fixed or removable?

The hammered glass flute lifts out of the metal frame for easy candle placement and cleaning. It sits inside the frame without adhesive or clips.

How is the finish maintained?

Wipe the aged gold frame with a dry soft cloth to remove dust. Avoid water, household sprays and abrasive cleaners as these can damage the hand-applied patina. The hammered glass can be washed separately in warm soapy water when removed from the frame.
