The Barna is a modern LED pendant in matt black, with an aluminium structure that rises to a slim, tapered neck and opens out into a rounded dome of a shade. A loop of black textile cable hangs just beneath the rim, a small and slightly playful detail that gives the fitting its character. It comes in two sizes, Small and Large. The light source is an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change. It gives a warm white light at 3000K with a colour rendering index of 90 or more, so food, fabrics and skin tones look true, and its 120° beam spreads that light generously over the area below.

With its clean Scandinavian lines and soft matt surface, the Barna sits well over a dining table, a kitchen island or a breakfast bar, and it is just as at home above a reading chair in a living room. Two or three in a row make a good line of light over a long table. It hangs on a 1.5m textile cable and works from an ordinary on-off switch; it is not dimmable, so it suits a space where you want steady, even light rather than adjustable mood lighting. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The structure is aluminium in a matt black finish, and the cable is covered in textile, which looks softer and more considered than plastic flex. As a mains fitting, it is for a qualified electrician to install, and it carries a 5 year guarantee. For styling, the matt black reads crisp against pale walls and light oak, and it pairs naturally with linen, warm timber and brass or copper accents elsewhere in the room.
