Description

A wide, shallow drum in dual-layer faux silk hangs from a polished chrome multi-arm frame, with five small candle lamps arranged inside it. The outer face is a soft nude beige, while the lining is a lighter moonlight tone, so the light takes on a little warmth on its way down. At 60cm across, the drum is broad enough to read as the main light in a room without looking heavy, and the chrome arms pick up whatever brightness falls on them. It hangs on a chain, so the height can be set to suit the room.

This is a light for rooms with some height to play with: above a dining table, in a hall with a stairwell overhead, or centred in a bedroom where a narrow pendant would look a little mean. We would reach for it where a chandelier feels too formal and a single shade too plain. It takes five candle lamps on E14 sockets, up to 20W each, and it will dim provided the lamps you fit are dimmable and a suitable dimmer is used. Warm white lamps flatter the beige and moonlight pairing best.

The frame, arms and ceiling plate are finished in polished chrome, kept fairly slim so the fabric does most of the work. For the shade, lift dust away with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery tool on its lowest setting rather than anything damp, and wipe the chrome now and then with a dry cloth once the lamps have gone cold. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included. The neutral shade and bright metal sit comfortably alongside both brushed and polished fittings already in a room, which makes it an easy choice if you are adding one light rather than starting again.
