Description

Five arms spread from a satin nickel centre, each with its own E14 lampholder, and a single broad drum shade in nude beige faux silk sits above them, lined in moonlight. At 60cm across, it reads as a wide, low shape rather than a tall one, throwing light sideways across a ceiling as much as down onto a table. The fabric softens the light and takes the hard edge off a group of small candle lamps burning together. A chain suspension sets the drop, so the height can be judged against your own ceiling.

We would hang this over a round dining table, where the width of the shade matches a round top well, or in a hall where a wide, gentle spread suits better than a single downlight. It also works in a main bedroom, sitting above the foot of the bed rather than over it. Fit dimmable candle lamps if you want the level to drop in the evening, since the lamps rather than the fitting do that work here; no dimmer comes with it. It suits rooms with a bit of ceiling height to give.

The frame and arms are metal in satin nickel, a soft grey sheen that sits quietly beside brushed steel or pewter without trying to match it. The shade is faux silk, so keep it dry: a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum for dust, and a dry cloth for the metal, with the power off first. It carries a one year warranty. We like it best where the beige of the shade picks up wood or linen already in the room, and it is the one we reach for when a cluster of small pendants would look busy. Lamps are not included.
