Banyan 3 Light E14 Iron Pendant Light 45cm Grey - Antique Brass

Three candle lamps sit on brass arms beneath a single fabric shade, so the light arrives as a soft wash through the faux silk rather than a hard pool below. The shade is grey and 45cm across, shallow in proportion, and the arms and the central body carry an antique brass finish that reads warm and lightly aged rather than bright and new. It takes small E14 candle lamps, and dimmable ones will let you take the level down for an evening.

We would hang this over a dining table, where a round shade sits happily above a round or oval top, and it does just as well in a hallway or on a landing with height to spare. It suits a room that wants warmth without much glitter: grey fabric, a little brass, and nothing else asking for attention. A 1.5m chain comes with it, which gives scope for a tall ceiling as well as a standard one. In a bedroom it gives a gentler, wider light than spots overhead.

The frame is metal under the antique brass, and the shade is faux silk over a grey and white laminate lining that keeps the inside bright and sends more of the light downwards. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum, and wipe the brass now and then with a dry cloth: no sprays, and nothing damp on the shade. Dry indoor rooms are where it belongs, so we would keep it away from a bathroom or an open porch. It carries a one year warranty. With clear candle lamps it looks quietly traditional, and with opal ones the glow through the silk is softer again. Lamps are not included.

Which lamps should I use?

It takes three E14 candle lamps, and an LED candle in the C35 shape is what we would choose. Each lamp can draw up to 20W.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and pair them with a suitable dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with the pendant.

How low will it hang?

The drop runs from 340mm at its shortest to 1800mm at its longest, using the 1.5m chain supplied.

What size is the shade?

It measures 45cm in diameter and 15cm deep, with a body height of 220mm behind it.

How do I keep the shade looking right?

Brush or vacuum the faux silk gently to lift dust. Avoid water, solvents and fabric sprays, as they can mark the weave and the laminate lining.

Will it suit a low-ceilinged room?

It can hang short, but the shade is wide, so allow clearance across the width as well as the drop. Over a table it works best where the top is at least as wide as the shade.
