Description

The Banjara is a cake stand and dome in recycled glass, 30cm across and 38cm tall with the dome in place. The plate is flat with a rim turned up round its edge and is carried on a conical foot that flares out to a wide base. The dome is deep and close to straight sided before it turns over at the crown, and it is finished with a solid glass knob drawn up out of the top. The dome sits down inside the turned rim of the plate.

The plate is 30cm across, which takes a standard 20cm sponge with room at the edge to get a slice out, or a tart of the same size. Because the dome locates inside the rim it stays put rather than sliding when the stand is moved. At 38cm tall with the dome on and 2.45kg in weight this is something to leave standing on a table or an island, and the plate serves as a stand on its own as well.

The glass is recycled and carries a faint green cast, with small bubbles caught through the thickness of both pieces. Each is formed on its own, so no two domes hold the same run of bubbles. The glass is food safe, and the plate and the dome are sold as a pair.
