Description
The Balbo is an 8-light cluster chandelier built around a central nickel hub from which multiple arms radiate outward, each terminating in a smoky glass globe housing a G9 bulb. The 50cm diameter cluster forms a spherical mass of overlapping glass, with the dark smoky finish giving each globe a charcoal transparency that diffuses light while maintaining visible depth through the layers.
Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and living room centrepieces, the Balbo suits rooms with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 3m. The adjustable cable drop allows the chandelier to be set between 40cm (minimum height when fully raised) and 170cm below the ceiling rose, meaning it can be positioned 700-900mm above a dining table or dropped lower in double-height spaces. The polished nickel canopy fits standard UK ceiling roses and the cable is sleeved for a clean run from canopy to chandelier body.
Each of the eight G9 bulbs sits inside its own smoky glass dome, so the light output is diffused through multiple layers of semi-transparent glass rather than being concentrated in a single direction. This creates ambient fill light rather than direct task illumination. The nickel frame reflects some of the internal light back through the glass, adding a metallic accent between the dark globes. The IP20 rating restricts the Balbo to dry indoor environments only.
The chandelier arrives as a pre-assembled unit with the glass globes factory-fitted to the nickel arms. Installation involves connecting the mains cable to the ceiling rose terminal block, raising the chandelier body to the desired height, and securing the excess cable inside the canopy. The G9 bulbs are sold separately, allowing choice of halogen or LED depending on preference for light colour and energy consumption.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Balbo take?
The chandelier requires 8 x G9 bulbs, each rated up to 28W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose G9 LED bulbs at 2.5-4W and 2700K-3000K for warm ambient light with lower running costs than halogen equivalents.
Is the Balbo dimmable?
Dimmer compatibility depends on the specific G9 bulbs installed. G9 LEDs vary in their dimming performance, so check the bulb packaging for confirmed dimmer compatibility before pairing with a dimmer switch.
What room size does it suit?
The 50cm diameter works well over dining tables 1.6-2.2m long, kitchen islands of similar length, or as a centrepiece in living rooms up to 20m². The 8-bulb output provides ambient rather than task lighting, so additional directional lighting may be needed in larger or work-intensive spaces.
Can the height be adjusted after installation?
Yes, but it requires lowering the canopy and adjusting the cable length inside the ceiling rose. The chandelier is designed to be set to the correct height during initial installation, with the excess cable coiled inside the canopy and secured there.
