Description
The Balance is a 4-light pendant fitting built around two curved gold-finished metal arcs that intersect in an orbital configuration, each supporting two opal blown-glass globes on individual arms. The 61cm diameter frame suspends on three wires from a central gold ceiling rose, with each globe housing a G9 bulb (sold separately). The opal glass diffuses light evenly in all directions, providing ambient rather than directed illumination.
Designed for dining areas, living rooms and open-plan spaces with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 3.5m, the Balance works where both sculptural presence and functional light are needed. The suspension drop adjusts between 42cm and 142cm on installation, allowing the fitting to be set 70-90cm above a dining table or higher for general room lighting. The G9 bulbs sit inside the globes rather than visible above them, so the opal glass acts as the primary light source when viewed from any angle.
The gold finish on the metal arcs has a warm, slightly matte tone rather than high-polish mirror-bright, pairing comfortably with brass door hardware, warm-toned timber and earth-palette interiors without reading as overtly traditional. The curved frame gives the fitting a kinetic quality, it appears different from different viewpoints as the arcs cross and overlap. At 61cm diameter the Balance has substantial presence without dominating smaller dining tables or living room corners, and the opal globes themselves measure approximately 15cm diameter each, large enough to provide meaningful light output without appearing oversized on the frame.
The IP20 rating limits the Balance to dry interior use only. The metal construction and blown-glass globes give the fitting a combined weight that requires secure ceiling fixings, particularly on plasterboard ceilings where additional support may be needed beyond the standard ceiling rose. The G9 base accepts LED, halogen or eco-halogen bulbs, with most users choosing warm-white LED between 3-5W per globe for total output around 12-20W across the four lights.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Balance take?
The fitting takes four G9 bulbs up to 40W each (sold separately). Most users pair this with warm-white LED G9 bulbs between 3-5W per globe, giving total output around 12-20W across the four lights and warm ambient illumination suitable for dining or living spaces.
How is the drop adjusted?
The suspension wires can be shortened during installation to set the drop anywhere between 42cm and 142cm. For dining tables the fitting typically hangs 70-90cm above the table surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 3.2m. Higher ceilings can use the full 142cm drop for general room lighting.
Is the gold finish polished or matte?
The gold finish on the metal arcs has a warm, slightly matte tone rather than mirror-bright polish. This reduces glare under room lighting and pairs well with brushed brass hardware and warm timber finishes without appearing overly traditional or ornate.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
No. The IP20 rating limits the Balance to dry interior spaces only. It cannot be installed in bathrooms, conservatories or any location with elevated humidity or direct moisture exposure.
